ACCIDENT AT LYELL

CAR DROPS 200 FEET. THREE OCCUPANTS’ MARVELLOUS ESCAPE. (By Telegraph—Press Association). R EEI'TON, Dec. 27. One of the most remarkable motor accidents recorded in tlie locality lijfc just occurred near the Lycll, where fa car went over the- well-known Dublin Terrace, and bad a drop of over 2.0 -• feet- It was a Fiat car, owned and driven by Mr Chidgey, of, (Christchurch. Whilst it was approaching another car on Dublin Terrace, on .the luangabua Junction-Nelson road, some two miles past the Lycll, it went over the bank and fell actually for over a distance of 2UO feet. A number of other cars soon appeared on the scene of the accident, and rendered assistance. The occupants of the Fiat numbered three—Mr and Mrs,. Chid gey and Miss Davis, all of Christchurch. They were, after a time, extricated from under the car.

The onlookers regarded it as one of the low really miraculous escapes from death, as the car was badly damaged, its passage. having been checked by a fallen leg. . :

Tho occupants were not seriously' injured. Miss Davis, ..besides sustaining shock, bad various abrasions and, an injured ankle, which was caught in the door, she having been pinned under the car for nearly an hour. W

Mr Chidgey sustained scalp injuries and shock, also abrasions, aii'u ms wife sustained shock and abrasions.

Newman’s service car brought tho occupants on to'the Recfton Hospital, and upon inquiry, their condition was found to be not serious.
