William O’Halloian, a bushman. went into Wanganui on 21st .December with about £‘so, hooked a room at a hoardinghoii.se, and went drinking. Coming hack, he went to sleep in his room and on waking in the morning found his money gone. It had been taken away by George Brock Aaron Korogson, aged 31, who shared the room, and who was subsequently arrested at Wellington with £4O in his possession. Korogson in court to-day pleaded guilty to the theft of a roll ol notes amounting to £39. He was given six months.
THIEF’S STRCGGLE WITH A CONSTABLE.
WELLINGTON, December 20
Tlx* police hit vc been keeping a watch at Island Ilav in the mornings owing to complaints of theft of milk and cream tokens. On Xmas morning a violent struggle took place when a constable arrested Walter Richard "Williams, a labourer, aged sixty, other help having to be obtained. I o-day Williams was sentenced lor assaulting tlx' constable on a charge o'! resisting.
At the police station, Williams complained of injuries, and it was found that lie had two ribs broken. He was ordered to pay £1 Is doctor’s fee, in default, one week, cumulative on the previous sentences. The Sub-Inspector said the injuries .might have been caused in the struggle which was a very severe one.
FATALLY CRUSHED.
WELLINGTON, December 20
Trevor Williams .McCallum, single, aged 29. died in Wellington Hospital at 11.15 p in. on Christinas Day from injuries received during shunting operations in Thorndon railway yards at 5.5(1 o’clock on Christinas Eve. McCallum, who was crushed between tuo trucks, was taken to the hospital in a serious condition, suffering from a badly crushed thigh and a fractured pelvis.
MAN DROWNED
WELLINGTON, December 20
Shortly before 9 o’clock on Tuesday night, a man whose name has not yet teen ascertained, was sitting with a companion on Jervois Quay Wharf, when lie slipped over the side, and fell into the water. A crowd soon gathered, but not a trace of the man who had fallen into the water could be seen. Constable McCrae and other police officers dragged the water in the vicinity until 11 o’clock, but to no purpose. Dragging will be continued again at daybreak. The other man was arrested on a charge of drunkenness.
BODY RECOVERED. WELLINGTON, Dec. 27
The body of Charles A. Rodman was recovered from the harbour ncui Jei vois Quay yesterday. Rodman fell off the wharf shortly before 9 o’clock on Tuesday night, since when dragging operations have continued by the police and the Harbour Board officials. Deceased, who was fifty years of age, was up to a fortnight ago staying at tlio Salvation Army Home at Miramar.
MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. CHRISTCHURCH, December 2G
William Hamilton, 25, was killed on North Road this morning through his motor cycle colliding with a motor car. He was trying to pass a motor truck at the time. He belonged to Prebblcton. CHRISTCHURCH, December 2G. A motor cyclist named Charles. Braddottle, aged 35, a station cook, of Orari, was killed on the Main North Road at noon to-day. It was first thought that the man’s name was Hamilton, but this proved wrong. Braddoc-k was caught between a motor truck and a motor car. He tried to pass the truck and the motor car coming from tlio opposite direction struck him. The rider was badly hurt and died from injuries.
