Jarvic denied he had received £3OO from Eit/.gibbons for himself or for the National Party funds. Winever, K.C., counsel for Eitzgibhons. said: “Then you can explain why Fitzgibbons, when drawing two hundred" from his bank, also withdrew £300.” Jarvie: “No.” Jarvic admitted that when Premier Bavin was discussing attempts to bribe Uruntueli. the Premier asked whether here was a rumour about- £3OO as well as £2OO. to which Jarvie replied: “Yes there is a rumour, hut he (Jarvie) had no knowledge whether he was implicated.”
AYinever : “AYhat was the rumour.” Jarvie:' “That five hundred had lieen withdraw, two hundred having reached Brnntncll. and some suggested that three hundred reached me, which certainly was not correct.” The police tendered a statement by Fitzgibbons. in which he declared lie had withdrawn five hundred sterling, not two hundred, which was intended -for the party funds. The case was adjourned till Monday.
