In order to increase the efficiency, speed, cargo space, and passengers’ (i ii'forts. the boilers of live ot the principal Peninsula Brandi Line steamers in the Australian trade—Bnradine, Balranald, Ballarat, Bendigo, and Barrabool, will lie converted into oil burners by the new Bauer A\ ele-h installation. The steamers will he re-equipped a.s they arrive from Australia. The work is to he completed by June. The passenger accommodation will he renovated and ventilation improved.

M.r Reginald Black, resident manager of the Union Steamship Company, eu route to Australia on the Tahiti, lor three months' holiday, following a visit fo London, declined to discuss the reports concerning the possibility of the substitution of modern lines lor the Tahiti and Makura.
“This is a matter ol which the future will have to take care, he said.
“On my London visit nothing was mentioned concerning the displacement of the present vessels with larger and faster ships.”
