Sir Joseph Ward stated to-day that lie had expedited the work of lending moneys by the State Advances Department. hoi It for settlers and workers and that 350 applications for loans which had been standing over for a. considerable period had been passed by Llm Board, at a meeting this week, for prompt payment. The amount authorised h v the Board exceeded a quarter of a million. lie had given instructions that additiontil valuers were to be put on to ensure its prompt ;i return as was possible in applications flint had been on the hands of the Board for fas long as two years, amounting to over three millions, lie had already arranged for two millions of fresh money tit a satisfactory rate. lie had every liojKi that by time the present (.arrears were cleared off, he would be able to reduce the. interest and keep th.e State Advances Department in funds.
