Tho Westland County Council is having Station Road at Fuper Ivoiterangi pushed on. This mad is destined ultimately to link up the Municipal and 'Wliitcomhe roads, and will provide a round trip from the head of the Borough endowment settlement to the road to Hokitika (forge, coaling out above Mr R,. A. Haroourt’s homestead. When the present contract is out of hand there will be a little over a mile of road to construct. Some extension is to be added in the new year, and it is hoped to have the whole route Con | Ic/Led. jne.vii ye.ar/bijforo the opening of next dairying season. A good standard of road is being constructed. as ultimately the road will be in regular use by all classes of traffic . The road gives access to some fine dairying country which can thou be brought into full profit.

The death occurred yesterday o>f ATr John Tensdnle. an old and respected resident of the Brunner district, at the Grey River Hospital. The deceased. who was a native of County Durham, England, was 70 years of ago. He had resided in Brunner district for over 10 years, and for many years acted as carpenter at the mines. He leaves a family of three daughters and three sons, the former being Mesdames .Millar (Cobden), Thomson (Dobson), and Jelfs (Auckland), xvliilo the sons are John (Ikamatua), Joseph (A Ins ter. ton), and Leslie (Cobden). The iluneral takes place at Stillwater.
The finishing touches are being put to the .reorganisation of the • Hokitika racecourse tliis week. Since previous visits we notice a neat sweet’s stall has been erected adjacent to tlic lawn, while a soft drinks bar is-being erected behind the bird cage. The ambulance room is being finished off to-day, while the completion of the administrative quarters will be out of hand in a day or two. The necessary furnishing is now being done. Everything will lie in readiness for the Club’s meeting. opening on Boxing Day. Acceptances for all events that day close on Wednesday night at 8.30 with the Secretary.
