Perry) presided, and the Hon. 11. 1,. .Michel (chairmani and Messrs Arthur Clifton and James King (members of the High School Hoard i, M r .). Conning 'secretary of the School Committee) and Hew Nelson Wright, were present, together with the Mayoress (.Mrs l’orr.v), Mrs 11. L. Michel and a number of parents and well wishers.
Ihe Mayor opened the proceedings with ;r short speech, in which he complimented the Hector and Staff on the success of the year’s operations, and the scholars on their work, extending hearty good wishes for a pleasant holiday and renewed vigour for those who returned back to the school next year, and every success >for those who entered on a now sphere of life. Apologies for absence wa.s made for Messrs Armstrong (chairman), Hi: hards and Shannon (mouthers of the School ( omnnt-
I ee). The School Song wa.s then rendered by (he scholars with excellent eflcci. A. plavette was then given hy the male scholars, who were lie rtily applauded. Mention was made of former pupils, relereuee being made to tin* present Kngineer-in-c'hief who was a “ Dux ” ol the School, and later it was mentioned t bat the Mayor bad also filled the position at an earlier date. Moth teachers and pupils ware heartily congratulated on their efforts in the past year and gedd wishes were ext-tided for the holi dav season and next year’s labours. PHKSKNTAT tOX OK PHIZKS. The Hector moved a hearty vote of thanks to the Mayor for presiding, and his and Mr Michel’s addresses, the members c*! the Hoard and ( ommiLtco : for their attendance, and -Mrs Perry j for kindly distributing the prizes. The vote was carried by hearty acclamation. The National Anthem, heartily sung, concluded the gathering. Subsequently the visitors were eutettained at afternoon tea hy the scholars, a (laintv repast being provided, ami the gathering dispersed.
