While at Lake Kanieri yesterday, tlio District Engineer (All* T. A. Johnston) paid a visit of inspection to the new road towards Dorothy Falls. Tho work is being advanced slowly. Some six or seven men are still on the work which is being carried out by co-opera-tive parties in small sections. The work has now reached the limit of tho present survey, hut a good deal still remains to be done behind. Some small bridges and culverts are required, and Tuliua Creek in particular, needs controllng. In the new year the route ahead is to bo explored with a view of carrying the road through to Dorothy Falls by Christmas of next year, if tho funds can be provided. An exploration of the joining route from Ivokatahi Valley "via the Styx river, is also to be made, when time serves, with a view to the ultimate connection of the roads, and so providing a sound route for traffic. When this is done it should prove a very popular drive, and will afford an excellent scenic outlook, as well as affording an opportunity of passing through a good deal of farming and settlement country. The opening up of the Styx route will also be the leaving of a line of roads to carry vehicles into the back couhtry, where an interesting holiday resort in the high hills could lie founded affording an excellent location from a health point of view, for which an ideal plateau awaits occupation.; The beach is calling these days, and no doubt you’re finding your present costume worn or faded.
