POLICE BRIBE CASE

At the resumption of the Goddaidj case. .John Wilkin, a police constable, under Goddard until Oct. 31st.. when he retired after 20 years’ service, evidence that Goddaid handed over numerous sums varying from ;20s r,os. which he stated he had received at various West End Clubs and Cabarets, which were under observation. Ihe sums were handed over twenty to thirtv times in eighteen months, bo<*i lining in 1927. Goddard handed over several pounds saying they came from .Mrs Mcvriek. At this stage Meyrick’s counsel objected to her name being mentioned, hut. the Magistrate over-ruled him, saying: “Don’t interrupt.” Wilkin, proceeding said Meyrick’s Forty-Three Club was under observation by himself and Goddard throughout the period of her gilts. Superinttoiulen Marton gave evidence that an anonymous letter, previously referred to, leading up to the inquiries, signed by an ex-waiter, spoke of heavy Uribes to the poliee. I The hearing was adjourned.
