NOVEMBER WEATHER

DRY IN MOST BAR I'S. WELLINGTON, December 6. The summary of the weather for November issued by the .Meteorological Oliiee is as follows: .November was a dry month in most parts of the Dominion. The rainfall was above the average in the eastern districts of the North Island from Wellington to East Cape and at scattered places in tne eastern parts of the South Island, but elsewhere there was a considerable deficit. The month on the whole was cool though summeruke conditions set in suddenly on the Kith, and continued till the 25th. During this period remarkably fine weather was the rule. This year has been characterised by the unusual frequency of thunderstorms. This feature was maintained during November, there being only 12 days on which thunderstorms wore not reported. Frosts were few in number and light. In most districts there is an ample supply of food and crops of all kind are in good condition, especially in the Wellington and jlawke’s Bay provinces. The line spell I mm the I.6th onwards induced early Towering in malty clops and. generally speaking, they are in forward condi 7 lion. A good rnin will he heeded in December to ensure good yields from the crops ami sufficient pasturage for the summer. The early setting in ol summer weather gives rise to some little anxiety for the future. On the Ist the weather was controlled by a cyclone, which crossed the northern part off the North Island, and which was referred to in the notes foi October. General rain fell over tin North Island with many heavy fall? and Hoods in Wairarapa and Maiiawal.i rivers. On the sth an intense depression of the westerly type brought heavy rain in the western districts and ecu tral highlands of the Smith Island Northerly gales were experienced from Cook Strait southwards. Condition: remained rather unsettled until the Ii?lIj. Between the Sill and I.2th an other rather intense depression passed culminating in the development ol a cyclone off the Fasl Coast. On the Bth and Dili northerly gales blew, the 1 on the Bth being very heavy, doing mil’ ll damage in Christchurch. Fr m the 10th to 12th there wen* south westerly gales with heavy rains in most districts and low temperatures. Snow fell on the high country with hail in places. Strong southerly winds and

cold showery weather continued between Napier and the East Cape till the loth, rain being particularly heavy at East Cape. A fine warm spell, to which reference already has been made followed the unsettled period of the first- half of the month. On the 25th, however, a fairly intense cyclone approached from the Tasman Sea and crossed the Dominion during the following two days. Its passage was accompanied by good general rains, especially on the 20th, which were of great benefit to the country. Cool south-westerlies set in on the 27th as the cyclone passed but the storm losing its intensity the cold snap proved of only slight severity. The remainder of the month mainly was line with moderate temperatures.
