The popularity of building and loan societies in England and America and hanking gen rally were commented on by Mr David Pollock, managing director of the Dominion Banking and Investment Association and secretary oi the Northern Building Society, who returned from a 10 months’ trip abroad by the Niagara from Vancouver. “All the great English banking houses arc very friendly disposed towards building societies,” stated Mr I’olloek. “They recognise the soundness and importance >f the societies and assist them in •very way. There is no rivalry but only mutual benefit. As an instance the banks remit and collect the fee of exchange for building societies to all parts of Great Britain. Sir Josiah Stamp, who has been elected a director of the Bank of England, still retain" •onsiderable interests in an important building society.”
