Alderman John Ben net Tunbridge, wlioes death has taken place at Mythe at the ago of 78, served in the C.1.D., Scotland Yard, from 1881 to 189-3. He was afterwards for six years Commissioner of Police for New Zealand, and he introduced a pension system ifor the New Zealand police. While at Scotland Yard lie arrested Neil Cream, the poisoner, and he was also sent to South America to arrest A Ibex Balfour, but was recalled on account of an outbreak of malaria, lie had been a member of the Hythe Town Council for 23 years. In November last ho and his wife celebrated their golden wedding, the day being also the birthday of both.

The “Times” correspondent at .Malta says that Governor Strickland opened Parliament. The Oppositionists did not attend during the speech, which was
forecast of legislation affecting constitutional relations between the two Houses, trooping in as Governor Strickland left the Chamber. Nationalists in the Strangers’ Gallery, hooted the Governor, but Constitutionalists cheered, {several members were ejected.
U.S. “MYSTERY” PLANE DESTROYED.
THE PILOT PARACHUTES
WASHINGTON Dec. 3
The United States “mystery” aeroplane was demolished when it fell threi thousand feet over the naval station. The right wing dropped off during difficult manoeuvres.
Pilot James Collins landed from a parachute and suffered from shock. The plane was one on which the Curtiss Company had worked for a year, and was reported to have cost 100,00') dollars. It was considered to have been one of the year’s outstanding aviation developments.

(ith. will proceed by aeroplane from California to Chicago to participate with other delegates in the Aeronautical Exhibition which is being held there now. They will fly to Dayton Ohio, on the 10th. to participate in the celebration of the 23tli. anniversary of tile Wright Brothers’ first flight. N
