Mr Ormsby-Gore, Under-,Secretary for Dominions, replying to a question in tjio Gmunons respecting a commercial treaty between tho South African Government and German Government, said His Majesty's Government in Groat Britain were iniormetl of negotiations which led to the signature- oif this treaty, which did hot come into force pending ra.tiiicn.tion. It provided that goods produced or manufactured in Germany would, on exportation to the I nion ol .South Africa, he entitled to tiie same treatment as similar goods produced or manufactured in any other country: subject to this proviso, that in case of goods in respect ol which prclerciitial treatment was under existing Sonilt Africa legislation spatially accorded to other parts ol the British Empire, Germany would not he able, to claim any such minimum rates or rebates actually granted to oilier parts of the Empire.
