LEAGUE OF NATIONS
WORK W. THE PACIFIC
SUVA, Nov. 3
The League of: - . Nations has made a start in active work in the Pacific. By the Sonoma theregairived in Suva, Dr Silento, of Australia,: - .well known by his work in the Australian School of Tropical Medicine, and Dr Hormant, a noted French doctor:' These t- o c .a mandate from the League of Nation to conduct a campaign of inquiry into health conditions generally right throughout Melanesia, and have made Fiji their starting point. They have lost no time, and sailed last night in the yacht Pioneer, in which they will visit many islands of the group. Their main object is to he able to recommend to tlie League lines of research which might he undertaken with profit, and ways and means by which the influence of the League might be used to the advantage of Aielarfesia. TO AIEET AT LUGANO. DR. STRESEAIANN’S HEALTH. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 30. There seems every likelihood that the next meeting of the League of Nations Council, due to begin on December 10th, will lie bold at Lugano, Switzerland in a town other than Geneva. Tlie reason is that Dr Stresemann’s doctors consider that the climate o r Geneva at this time of the year would bo prejudicial to the Foreign Minister's health, which has not yet completely recovered from the effects off his recent long illness. Dr Strescmann was too ill to attend the last two meetings of the Council and his desire again to meet Sir Aaisten Chamberlain and M. Briand in particular is reciprocated by those statesmen. It has been necessary to obtain the acnuiosenoe of all the members of the Council before changing the meeting place from Geneva to Lugano, and although all the replies have not yet been received no objection to the proposal has so far been made. The only political question in the Coinr.il agenda relates to the PolishLitliunnian problem, but it is general! l ' considered probable that the meeting of llie Foreign Ministers will enable important, if informal discussions on current problems to take place. SUGGESTION AGREED TO. GENEVA, December 1. The League Council lias agreed to Dr Stresemann’s suggestion to bold the 53rd meeting at-Lugano.
