CAR SMASHED BY TRAIN
ONE OCCUPANT KILLED. (By Telegraph—Press Association). HAMILTON, Dec. 2. A goods train crashed into a car at too level crossing at Frankton on (Saturday evening. Four of six passengers, were sent to hospital with serious injuries. The injured are as loiiows: Mary Scown, aged 6 (Frankton) — head injuries, critical. Alexander Hamilton, 30, labourer (Frankton)—concussion and bead injuries. critical. O. Scown and son aged 10—less serious. ! Mrs Scown escaped. Patrick Deegan of Glen Alton, miner, was tbe driver of tbe car, which was turned completely over, and burst into flames. Tile engine driver, stoker and passers by rushed and extricated the passengers from the burning car. LATER, A level crossing accident occurred at Frankton Junction yesterday afternoon when a car driven by Patrick Deegan, aged 48, miner, of Pukemiro, and containing five other passengers—Mr Alexander John Hamilton, aged 31, married (Frankton); and Mr and Airs diaries Francis Harold Scown, and their two children, Charles aged 10, and Alary, aged 6, collided with a goods train approaching Frankton from Alercer. The tar was overturned and caught fire. Hamilton died in the hrspital from head injuries three hours later, and the condition of the boy Charles Scown is critical. The injuries of the father and daughter are also serious. Airs Scown and Deegan escaped lightly. Deegan was afterwards arrested for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car.
