FREIGHTER ADRIFT

VANCOUVER, November 30
The great freighter, Chief Ma<)uilla, owned by the Dollar Line, is helplessly adrift in the Pacific, two thousand miles west of Vancouver Island.
Just before darkness to-night, three ships reached the Maquilla and will tow her to the Dutch Harbour, Alaska. The engine room is flooded and the pumps are useless. • VANCOUVER. November 20.
A Seattle message states the British ffighter “Chief Maquilla,” en route from British Columbia to Shanghai, is in danger. Seven rescue ships arc rushing to her aid, and are due to arrive early on Friday. The chief Maquilla’s crew comprises eight British officers, and 33 Chinese seamen. There is 13 feet oil' water in her engine room. She is listing Id degrees. She has a ,| ( .,-k load of lumber. Some of her lifeboats have been washed away.
