NEW CARGO STEAMER
FOR ANCHOR. COMPANY
The Anchor Shipping and Foundry Co., Ltd., has placed an order with Messrs Row, McLaughlin and Co., of Paisley, Scotland, for a new cargo steanief with, a carrying capacity of 100 tons dead-weight. The dimensions are: Length' (overall) 218 ft; breadth 34ft Gin j and depth (moulded) 13ft. The vessel, which will be fitted with triple expansion twin engines and two boilers, will he coal burning, but will he adaptable for burning oil fuel. There will be throe holds with largo hatches, and extra strong litfing gear, capable of handling up to 25 tons in weight, will be carried. The speed of the vessel will ho between .10 and 11 knots per hour. The general arrangement plan will he similar to the s.s. Titoki, but on a. larger scale. 'l'lie steamer is expected to be ready for sea about the end of March, when she will leave the Clyde for Nelson via. Panama Canal. No name has yet been decided upon, but a Maori name for some tree or shrub will probably be chosen. 1
