(Received this day at 10 a.m.)

VANCOUVER. November 27

As was iforecasted, the Liberals are making the Australian I rcaty one ol dig paramount issues in the .federal bye-election at Victoria. The speakers are not only stressing the great advantages, but are making an appeal lor (be strongest possible agreements with the Antipodes.

So far no Conservative attack lias been made on the Treaty. On the contrary tln* Tory papers are pointing out its advantages to British Columbia. The Einance M inister, M r Robb, speaking in support of the loriuer B.C. Premier, Maei.eand’s candidature, said the future of the Pacific Coast was dependent not on the wharves built or shipping subsidies, but on the* iinnsPacific friendships. Mr Robb quoted figures to show the tremendous prosperity that Canada enjoyed, as a result of Australian and other trade pacts, stating: 11 1 want you to benefit as well by the Australian treaty and by a larger, wider agreement with Australia, but to do that each must 1 play a part. We cannot have trade all our own way. We must make up our minds that the other 'fellow is just as good a trader as we are, and won’t be satisfied that we should do all the selling and lie all the buying.
