(Per Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).
AUCKLAND, Nov. 27
At tlio Presbyterian General Assembly, the report of the Treasured, Per. W. .J. Comrie stated that, considering all the conditions under which they had been labouring for tho past year, he thought the result was exceedingly satisfactory. There was no need for talking of retrenchment, and no reason for missionaries to be embarrassed with the thought that the Church was not going to support them adequately in their .hour of need.
On behalf of the Church, the Moderator presented the Rev. Comrie, who is retiring from the position of Treasurer after 23 years service, with a cheque, gathered in strictly limited sums from all over the Dominion.
The Quarter of a Million Fund Committee reported that alter making an inquiry and giving consideration to present conditions, it decided to postpone making definite arrangement-: for raising the quarter of a million fund.
Dr Gibb said be had characterised the setting up of this committee for so large a fund, as absolutely preposterous. If they aimed tit £101).(>09 by direct giving, lie believed it possible that they might get it.
The oommittte was re-appointed with power to continue its work. Regarding military training and rights of conscience, a motion tipproving the action of the committee in supporting the claims of Messrs Richards, Byrt, and Miller for exemption was carried; a proposal to instruct the Cmnmitttec to continue its efforts to obtain the ruling of the Governor-Goporal regarding an alternative form of service for conscientious objectors being deleted.
