TROUBLE AT TA'IJRO
I'U.OTKST ACAIXST Kl-'N'DAY WOIIK
TAUPO, Nov. 23
The popular A.C. hath at Taupe, which was Imilt many years ago by the. Armed Constabulary, is vested in Lhc Taupe Road Board. Great annoyance has often been caused by persons desiring a hath, having to wait in the open, until those inside finish dressing and unlock the door. The Government refused to help to construct an additional hath, and the Bond Board decided to divide it longitudinally, -so that two parties could bathe at the same time. AYairakei solved the problem bv directing that the big swimming bath should have specified times for gentlemen, ladies and mixed Itatli-
Tbe news of the proposed dividing of the hath gut about on Saturday, and n.’actio-ally every resident of Taujjo signed a petition to the hoard to delay the matter for further consideration. The lioard’s answer was to start the contract on Sunday morning. To do such work on a Sunday has raised olsjeetions from many of the townspeople. It is now proposed to call a public meeting and ask the Road Board to resign. It is a long time since the people of Taupo have been so stirred. It has caused far more interest than the election. The divided baths will l>o about 7 feet wide and have been dubbed the “dips” as they resemble an enlarged sheep dip.
