MALTE BE UN HUT

DUNEDIN. Nov. 23

Advice has been received by the Government Tourist Office in Dunedin that a grant of £IOOO has been made for the rebuilding of the Malte Brim hut at Mount Cook. Work is to be commenced at an early date and it is intended to provide a mountain lodge to accommodate 30 or 40 persons, with baths and other conveniences. The lodge will bo within easy reach of one of the finest ski-ing grounds in the world.

DEATH OF MOTHER MARIE ST. VERONICA.

AUCKLAND. Nov. 23

The death of Mother .Marie St. Veronica occurred at the Roman Catholic convent at Cambridge yesterday. She was horn at Lyttelton in 1803 and entered the Institute de Notre Dame ties Missions, Christchurch, at the age of fifteen. She was stationed at Napier. Opunake, Ashburton, Nelson and Inglewood and for the past eleven yeas lias been stationed at Cambridge.

Zella Watts, aged 1!) years, employed in lea-rooms at Alexandra., was drowned while bathing on Saturday in a pool in a stream, part of the Molyneux River.

A LAD DROWNED

CHRISTCHURCH, November 20

Cyril Campbell Armour, aged fifteen second son of Rev. T. W. Armour, was drowned at Sumner on Saturday afternoon. Evidently lie went for a swim at the boat harbour and was unable to get bade on (he rocks there because of the breakers.

TRIBUTE TO SCOTT. CHRISTCHURCH, November 25

Commander Ryrd and party arrived from Wellington this morning, and were met at the station by the Mayor Town Clerk, and American Consular Agent (Mr H. P. Bridge). They were subsequently taken on a motor tour of the Cit-v and Suburbs.

In the afternoon Commander Byrd deposited a. wreath at the foot of the Scott Statute, in tin* p esenee of a large assemblage, dm public including representatives ni local bodies. They left by the night express for Dunedin.

EX-MANAGER’S SUKIIM

CHRISTCHURCH. November 24

A. T. X. Godliarl, IG, married was found slint yesterday at his residence in Opawa.

The verdict at the inquest was that death was due to a gunshot wound self inflicted, while mentally depressed .

Deceased was formerly manager of the Barnett Glass Rubber Company.
