VISCOUNT HAMPDEN
ARRIVAL AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph, Per Press Association, j WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. Viscount Hampden, chairman of the Xational Mortgage and Agency Company of Now Zealand, was a passenger by the Maiinganui, which arrived from San Francisco to-day. Tie is accompanied by Viscountess Hampden illul their second daughter, the Hon. Barbara Brand. The visitors will •mend about three months in the Dominion. Viscount Hampden is visiting New Zealand mainly in the interests of the company, of which since 1909 lie has been a director. Viscount Hampden, who prior ir succeeding to his lather’s title, wa.i Brigadier-General Thomas Walter Brand, has had a distinguished Army career. He is the eldest son ot the 2nd Viscount Hampden and Susan Henrietta., daughter of laird George Cavendish, brother ol the 7th Duke ol Devonshire. Ho married in 1599 Lady Katherine Alary Montagu-Douglas-Scott, daughter of the (31 h "Duke of Buceleuch. He entered the Army in 1889, served in South Africa from 1899 to 1901. was mentioned in dispatches, and attained the rank ol "Major. In the Great War he wamentioned in dispatches seven times, was promoted to the rank of Brigad-ier-General, and was awarded thi honours of C.B. and C.AI.G. He was appointed a Lord in Waiting to his Majesty the King in 1924. Lord Hampden, who was met on arrival to-day by Mr G. TL Ritchie, general manager of the National Alort. gage Company, in addition to enquiring into the affairs ot the Company will, with his wife and daughter, make a tour of New 'Zealand before returning to England.
