LATE LOCALS.

The committee of the Westland SubUnion will hold their final meeting of this season to-morrow (Wednesday) evening at 7.30 o’clock. AH accounts owing must be rendered by 4 p.m to-morrow.

Examinations for senior national scholarship and intermediate examinations for senior free places in secondary schools and district high Bchools commenced to-day at the various centres. The examinations for junior national scholarship (candidates for junior free places, who will he over fifteen on Dec. let. next must now take this examination): Nov. 28th. and 29th. Public entrance: Nov. 20th. and following days.

The death took place suddenly at Wellington of heart failure on Wednesday evening of last week, of Mrs EL McHerron, late of Westport and Waimangaroa. Mrs McHerron was in failhealth until her demise, which took place while attending the pictures. She is survived by five sons, William, of Granity; Fred, of Wellington; Jim and Bernard, of Westport; Albert, of Palmerston North, and one daughter, Mrs McCarthy, of Wellington. Deceased was a maternity nurse for many years in Westport, and was very popular with all who came in contact with her.

Squadron-Leader Kingsford-Smith and Flight-Lieutenant Ulm flew from Young on November 7, so that they should be present at the wedding of Flight-Lieutenant Harold Litchfield, the young navigator, who made the journey with them in the Southern Cross to New Zealand. The wedding, reports the Sydney Sun, took place at sunset, at St. James’s Church, the bride being Miss Rina Holdsworth, only daughter of the late Mr and Mrs A. Tertius Holdsworth, of Bellevue Hill, Sydney. The bridegroom is the eldest son of Mrs Litchfield, of Waratah, Newcastle. The Rev. J. F. S. Russell performed the ceremony, and an old family friend, Mr Mac Walker, gave the bride away. She wore an ethereal, flounced frock of lace and chiffon, the colour of old parchment, tied with a satin ribbon sash. Her favourite colour, delphinium blue, was added in a fine ballybuntal hat and kid (shoes, and she wore a string of small pearls, the gift of the bridegroom. Pink carnations clustered fragrantly in her sheaf of blue delphiniums. Squadron-Leader Kings-ford-Smith was the best man. Only relatives and intimate friends were present at the ceremony, immediately after which Flight-Lieutenant and Mrs Litchfield loft for a motor honeymoon.
