The Hoard met at 8 p.m. Present: Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), G. Davidson, 0. Heinz, 'J'. \V. Dull, E. A Wells, M. Keenan and R. Meliarry. Apologies for absence were made lot Messrs Jeffries and Spiers. The minutes were confirmed ami outward correspondence approved. INWARD COBRESPONDKN( E. From Hospitals Department in regird to hospital bill passed at last ses-sion.—-Received. From N.Z. Trained Nurses’ Association forwarding copy of resolutions passed at recent conference of nurses. —Received. From Director-General of Hospitals, approving of the appointment ot Dr Roll as medical officer in Hariliari district.—Received. From same stating the Hon. the Minister of Hospitals had approved ol action in connection with maternity home.—Received. From same promising consideration to application for subsidy il the Secretary of Hariliari Medical Association will certify that contributors to the fund are to receive 110 special benefits not available to non-contributors and that the money was subscribed purely to assist the Board to obtain a doctoi for South Westland; a further letter approved ol a grant ot £'2oo subsidy £ for £. —Received. From Medical Association, Knmara. in reference to terms granted Sawmill Employees’ Association. —Received. From Nurses Fowler and Grant, accepting terms offered in connection with maternity home and thanking Board for consideration given.—Received. From I). J. Evans, enclosing cheque for £2 3s, being balance on Burns memorial fund, which it had been decided to donate ,to the funds of the hospital.— Received and accepted with thanks. From F. Murtlta. resigning position as housemaid at hospital.—Received and accepted with regret, a complimentary reference to lie supplied.
From D. Marklnnd resigning position as poultry maid.--Received and accepted. From Secretary, Grey Hospital Board, forwarding cheque £79 2s in connection with sawmill workers payment for first quarter.—Received. SURER.INTENDENT’S REPORT
From Medical Superintendent, Westland Hospital, reporting patients in hospital on Ist October, numbered 33. Admitted during October. 30 males. 1. females. Total treated -19 males. females—7s. Discharged cured, 2, males, 14 females ; relieved, 2 males. 1 female; died, 2 males, 1 female. Tot >1 discharged 25 males, 16 females—4l. Remaining in hospital, 31st October. 25 males, 9 females—34. In hospital for two months —10 males, 5 females 10. —Received.
The Treasurer reported receipts £1495 12s sd; payments £894 Is sd: credit balance £B2O 17s 7d. Received. Accounts amounting to £2Bl 17s Id were passed lor payment. The Chairman of Westland Hospital House Committee reported on conditions at the institution.—Received and approved. The Chairman moved that Dr. Bell lie appointed medical officer tor South Westland at a salary of 6500 for one year from October 15th. Seconded by Mr Davidson and carried. Mr Davidson withdrew his notice of motion in reference to nurses holidays and in lieu moved that the matron be authorised to arrange for time off to' the nursing staff according to the conditions ruling at the hospital. Second ed by Mr Meliarry and carried. Monday, December 10th, was fixed for the next meeting. The Board rose at 8.30 n.lll.
