A cable received on September 2-itli stated that, following the discovery of the shallowly-buried bodies ol an elderly couple, ilioinas and Airs Kirby, of Old. Thornahy Green, t lit' police bad arrested, on the implication ol murder. Charles William C'onlin, aged 22 years, an ex-soldier, and the grandson off the murdered woman by her first marriage.

Scotland Yard is also investigating the murder of Annie Hatton, an eighteen years old domestic, who "<is found strangled, bound and gagged in the kitchen of an employer’s shop nt Liickiiew. The rooms were ransacked but nothing was stolen.
