SPIDER, OF DEATH.

An American upon whose iforehead a spider was lattoed, recently told a remarkable story at Bow Street Police Court, London. He said that he was on secret service during the war, and while in hiding at Ctesiphone was captured by the Turks, who branded him on the forehead with what they called “The Spider of Death.” The Turks, he said, applied hot irons to his forehead, and for two hours one old man was employed in tattooing tin l spider, using cactus thorns, cactus juice and clay. Named Albert Nve Roughton and aged 70, the man was accused ol failing to register as an alien. lie was lim'd or a month’s imprisonment, and recommended for deportation. it was stated in the evidence that he went to Buckingham Palace to ask for assistance. The police stopped him and referred him to the Aliens office, and it was there found that he had not been registered. An aliens officer said .Roughton was travelling the country as a fortuneteller. He had left his wife, and was destitute. Roughton said he came, over with the American army, was discharged here without a pension, and wanted to get hack to America.
