THE PLANETS
A PROFESSOR’S OPINION. (Received this day at 11 n.m.) LONDON, Nov. 16. That life may exist in both Venus ■uid Mars is the conclusion of Doctor A. S. Rdington, Professor of Astronomy. of Cambridge University, in bis latest publication. He says Venus so far as is known, would .be well adapted for life similar to ours. The planets are about the same size. The earth is nearer the Sun, but probably is no warmer. As regards Mars. Edington says two essentials, air and water, are both present, but the scanty Martian- atmosphere is thinner than' the Earth’s, hut nevertheless adequate. It had been proved to contain oxygen. If animal life exists in that mysterious planet it is probably in a different form of life from ours, as Mars has every appearance of being a planet long past its prime.
