BERLIN. Nov. 16
There was an extraordinary debate in the Reichstag relating to the cruiser known as the “Picket Battleship.” 1 he Chancellor and three other Socialist Ministers were instructed by the Party that they must vote condemning their own Cabinet’s action, while Herr Qroenor Minister of War. whom no Party wants to lose, declared he would not remain in the Government unless the motion were rejected.
Herr Groonor said the cruiser would coiine within the Treaty of "Versailles. Battle Armadas of heavy ships, such as those participating at .Jutland, would never recur. Speed was the greatest need of the future. The cruiser would be superior to any ten thousand tnnner afloat, and a dangerous opponent to even a big battleship. The range of her artillery was thrice as long as the old German battleships. As the People’s Centre and Democratic Parties have decided to support the cruiser, rejection of the Socialist’s motion to-morrow is assured.
