Advice has now been received from the Flax Lauds Development Cov., Ltd., of Auckland, which is the Company formed to control the important interests involved, that development work is to begin in the New Year. 'l’lie area is Groves swamp on the south side of the Hokitika river opposite Lower Koiterangi, and was held formerly by Butler Bros., Ltd., being portion of the Hokitika. Harbour Board’s endowment purchased by the sawmilling firm some years ago. It is very pleasing to learn that Ji forward movement is about to be tmdertakne. and we are indebted to Milburn and Company, of Auckland, for the following information on the matter: — “We have pleasure in intimating to you that the Company .anticipates starting its drainage operations on this area early in the coming year and planting operations will then subsequently follow at an early date. “It will be of interest, no doubt, to you to know that the Company recently instructed Messrs Dalgcty and Co.. Ltd., to report on the area as to its suitability for flax planting purposes and that in the report just received by the Company from Messrs Dalgetv, the quality of the land .and its general suitability for the purposes for which the block lias been acquired, have been very favourably commented on. It is the Company’s desire to now secure a few further reports for the purpose of assuring the public as to the extreme siiitabiltiv of the area for flax development purposes.”
