ACTRESS LOSES CASE

The Society is interested in the strange story told by Owennetli A uncling West'End actress, in an action fur damages in .fudge McCardie’s Court. She sued C-apt. Turner-Coles, a member of the Carlton Club, Ini assault during a motor car ride after a New Year’s Day Dance. Plaintiff gave evidence that Turner-Coles was married, but he was divorcing bis wife and promised to marry her. Alter a lovers quarrel! in a motor-car he turned her out on a snow-covered road though in evening dress. He then locked her up in a garage and heat and bruised liei, and tore her evening dress, causing her to collapse. , .
Patrick Hastings (cross-examining plaintiff on behalf ol the defence) suggested she was drunk and also that the purpose of the action was to cause agoiiv to Capt, and Mrs Turner-Coles. in evidence, said that Owennetli threw herself on the snow and slashed him in the face. She was intoxicated. 'flic jury gave a verdict in favour of defendant.
