THE WESTLAND CONTEST
PRIME MINISTER’S INTEREST IN THE ELECTION.
The Rt. Hon. J. G. Ooates, P.C., AI.C., Prime Minister of New’ Zealand, is manifesting considerable interest in the A\ r estland polling to-morrow. In the course of a telegram despatched from Auckland yesterday afternoon, Air Coates indicated he was very pleased to learn that the prospects for Air Seddon’s success in the Westland Electorate were very bright. He further expressed the hope that the highest anticipations would he realised. He concluded by thanking friends for the good w’ishes extended to himself personally.
The interest exhibited by Mr Coates in the AVestlaiul contest bears out all that has been said regarding the desire of the head of the Government to see Air Seddon again sent back to Parliament, a result now’ apparently assured beyond all doubt or uncertainty.
There is no doubt ATr Seddon’s return to Parliament will give the greatest satisfaction among all ranks of both the Reform and the United parties interested in the new Parliament.
GOOD AYISHES FROM RT. HON. SIR J. G. WARD, BART, P.C., K.C.M.G.
A telegram to ATr Seddon, AI.P., Greymouth, from the Leader of the United Party to-day, indicated that Sir Joseph felt sure of the success of the United Party. He wished Air Seddon success, and wms sure “our friends will return you top of the poll.” He concluded by wishing Mr Seddon good lue and extended kind regards.
