The whole upper iioor was reduced to a tangled mass of wreckage, and practically nothing was saved. I he stock oil the ground floor was c, m-.der-ably damaged by water. In one place, twenty-live tons ol bright- steel bar-, were covered wit.li water and these will all have to be cleaned and dried immediately. The lire was fortunately confined to one department, and no other part of the building was damaged. The origin ol the lire is a mystery. Tiie building was insured for -G1 ~;0T i] !o stock for £2.500. and the machinery for £2OO, all in Royal Exchange Assurance Coy. AUCKLAND E\lt IT AUCKLAND, November 11. A six roomed house at Castor Hay. beyond Takapumr. owned by W. >l. Handley was destroyed by lire together with the furniture last night. It was unoccupied al the time. 'I he house is believed to have been insured in the Australian Provincial Association. The furniture was uninsured.
