A SPLENDID MEETING,

At night there was a magnificent meeting at the Totara Hall which was packed. In the absence, through illness of the flavor (Mr &. P. Evans), .Mr H. Osmers, Deputy-Mayor, presided and conducted the meeting very happily. Mr Sod don gave a lengthy address, introducing new matter, and dealing also with local matters in some detail. He had a fine hearing without interruptions, and made an excellent impression with his spirited address. At the close Mr John Murdoch proposed a complimentary vote. Mrs Evans and Mr J. Thompson, both rose tO' second the motion, the- 1101101 being accorded the lady. The motion was carried with enthusiasm.

Prior to the motion, quite a number of questions were asked, several from one source, and all were answered satisfactorily and to the appreciation of the 1 urge audience. Mr Sodden left Doss early this morning lor south. He was at Waitalia shortly after 10 o’clock, and to-night is to speak at Matainui. The indications appear to he that Mr Seddon will receive greatly increased support at all the centres south of the Hokitika river, a- fact which will greatly enhance his candidature and should result in his prospects oil polling day being very promising indeed. Mis supporters seem to he expressing satisfaction on all sides, not only with the excellent fight Mr feeddon is putting up in the contest, but also with the improved standing be lias established generally with the electors.
