NEW BANK NOTES. PROTECTION - A,GAINST FORGERV (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Novi 3. The Currency and Bank Notes Act, 1028, vesting in the Bank of England the sole right to issue legal tender notes in Great Britain, is to come into operation on November 22nd. This is preliminary to the issue of £1 and 10s notes by the Bank to replace £285,000,000 worth of Treasury notes now in circulation. Signed by Sir Warren Fisher as Secretary of the Treasury, the notes have been printed at the Bank of England, and it is believed are of such a design as to make lorgeiy virtually impossible. ARCHBISHOPS PRAISE. MEMORIAL TO LORD .MILNER. RUGBY, Nov. 4. A memorial to Lord Milner was .yesterday dedicated in one of the oldest and most beautiful parts of Canterbury Cathedral, the Chapel of St. Martin of Tours, L>y the retiring Archbishop (Dr Davidson). It consists of an altar with above it, an inscription in which reference is made to the manner in which Lord Milner, who died three years ago, devoted his life to the social and national well-being of Britain at Homo and overseas. In his address .the Archbishop mado particular reference to Lord Milner’s services in Egypt and South Africa. BRITISH RED CROSS. SIR OTTO BEIT’S GIFTS. RUGBY, November 4. ir Ootto Beit, who. recently showed his interest in the British Red Gross Society’s appeal for £40,000 to establish a clinic for the treatment and study of rheumatic diseases, by contributing £IO,OOO, lias now sent a further donation of £3474 to compeletc the sum required. It is hoped that the clinic will be ready for the. treatment of patients next year. In the meantime the British Red Cross Society is considering the development of a national scheme for the treatment of rheumatism.
