CANADIAN COWBOYS AND PICTURE DISPLAY TONIGHT.
“ MADAME POMPADOUR ”
Work lias been completed on the British National picture “ -Madame Pompadour.” This film, in which Dorothy Gish is the star, was directed by Herbert Wilcox at the new studios built by British National at Elstree. These studios, said to- be the 1 finest in Europe, should give British film production all the facilities possessed hitherto only by the finest studios in America. “Madame Pompadour” was adapted by Frances .Marion froriv the musical comedy which ran at Daly’s Theatre in London. In addition to Dorothy Gish in the title part, a number of distinguished players have important parts. The hero of the story, Rene Laval, an artist, is played by Antonio -Moreno. Nelson Keys is the Due do Con reeled to, a- courtier in love with Pompadour. Louis,XV. is enacted by the celebrated French actor, Henro Bose. Belottc, Pompadour's maid, is -Marie Ault; Maurepas, the Minister of Police, Gibb -McLaughlin; Pompadour’s mother, Mine. Poisson, Marsa Beauplan ; Canard, Pompadour’s dancing teacher. Aubrey Fitzgerald ; Gogo, a soldier in Pompadour’s personal bodyguard, Cyril McLaglan. “ This is one of the most notable casts ever assembled for a British picture, and, added to the technical resources of Els tree, should result in a film which will be comparable with, ,the best picture work in any country, .a matter of very great importance at a time when British fiiins are fighting, not only Ifor world recognition, but for their very existence.” said,an English critic, while “ Madame Pompadour,” was being produced. It will be ..shown at the Princess Theatre to-night under the Paramount trade mark.
COWBOY CONCERT AND DAN. r -E f _TO-NIGHT. To-night will be “some night.” The first plum is the big “Cowboy Concert” to be held at the Princess Theatre— when everyone, dancers and non-dancers will have the pleasure ol hearing one of Canada’s and America s foremost orchestras. The boys will play and sing numbers chosen from the classics, old-time melodies and modern jazz the prices being moderate to a degree —3s 34 and 2s. The secern plum .Will be to dance to Fred Mayfio and his bovs from 10.30 a.m. to _ a.m. at the .Drill Hall. No doubt every
available inch of floor space will, be utilised; so once again the prices are moderate: 3s gouts, 2s ladies. We’ll meet you there, play to you—sing with vou and dance with you.
