BOWLING

After the very fine weather of the earlier days of the week, rain fell on Friday night and Saturday morning, causing disappointment to the opening proceedings of the local Bowiiug 01 ah. In spite of the weather preventing the green being utilised, members of the Club gathered in the pavilion and at three o’clock a dainty afternoon tea was served by Airs •Wilson,, to about twenty-five, including .several ladies. After the tea had been done full justice to. the President (Air AV.m. Wilson) expressed his regret that the weather had prevented play that afternoon. but it had been decided to carry •on. He expressed the hope for a successful season, and that members would have many enjoyable games. He read a telegram from the (Weymouth Bowing Club conveying good wishes for the season, which was received with applause. Air Wilson then declared the •eason open and a few moments later those present adjourned to the green where Airs Wilson rolled up the bowl and declared the season formally opened amidst applause.

Air Wilson, continuing his speech, said he had a pleasant duty to perforin. the presentation of the Duncan Cup to last year’s singles champion, Air 1). Stevenson, congratulating him on his success in this competition on so ninny occasions.

Air Stevenson briefly replied expressing the hope that there would be good competition for the trophy this season, as valuable practice and experience resulted therefrom. Air Kiiuwles-Smith, in the course oi a pleasing speech expressed the keen appreciation of those present of the dainty repast so kindly served by Aits Wilson, who briefly acknowledged the references made.

By special request Air Wilson gave an interesting resume of some of his "xpcrieuces ol a howling tournament in AVales during his visit Home last vear. a round of applause being given at the conclusion. The proceedings then terminated.
