BOY KILLED

K. (L Coastigan, a boy of five, was killed while playing in a yard, by a refrigerator door standing against a wall, falling on him. His skull was fractured.

AYiord has been received by the New Zealand Church Missionary Society from Bishop Holden, of Kwangsehunan, that Miss T<!>in, a New Zealand missionary, captured by bandits about six weeks ago and held for ransom, has been released unharmed.

In the Magistrate's Court this morning in a ease in which Airs Snowden sued the Phoenix Assurance Coy for £l7l, claimed as loss through fire on July Ist the defence was that an overdue premium was not paid until July find, after the fire occurred, hut before the defendants’ agents were aware of it, and that the plaintiff did not report the fire. The plaintiff said that she paid the premium on Afny Bth and she produc* eu a receipt dated March 15th when tne premium was actually due.
SHUNTER KILLED. CARTERTON, November 5. A fatal accident occurred at the Featherston railway yards this morning, resulting in the deatli of Frederick C. AYhitrood, a shunter, about 40. He was engaged in backing trucks and it is presumed lie slipped and fell, a truck passing over his body. He was frightfully mutilated about the bead and the body. Death was instantaneous. He leaves a widow and a family of five. An inquest will be held.
PRISON ESCAPEE RECAPTURED WELLINGTON, November 5.
-Michael Ward, alias Jones, serving eighteen months’ reformative, escaped from a. Waikunc prison gang near Tokaanu but was recaptured in some scrub at (5.20 o’clock on Saturday night by Gaoler Glynn.
DEATHS ON AORANGI. AUCKLAND, November 5. Two deaths occurred on tnc voyage of the Aorangi, which arrived from Vancouver on Sunday evening. I hey are: H. Renhall, aged 60, a second class passenger, and Aliss M. Malison, aged 58, of Invercargill. _ ... The passengers by the Aorangi include the last of the touring bowlers to return and several delegates returning from the Empire Parliamentary Conference, including Hon. Gow and T. AY. Rhodes.
CHARGE OF THEFT. GREYMOUTH, Nov. 5
Dennis Costello was charged this morning with the theft of £7Ol Os Gd while employed as assistant clerk by the Grey County Council. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial to the Supreme Court. Bail was allowed in self of £2OO and two sureties of £IOO each.
