For the four weeks ended October 13th. 1928, the timber exported from Oreymouth was 2,599,573 super feet. In the same period the coal exported was 20,439 tons (State mines 5801, llapalme 2307, Blackball 7708, Paparoa 945, Dobson 3403, Castle Point 95). Many people were disappointed last year to find that their neglect to book seats for the St. Paul’s Dramatic Presentations, gave them no opportunity to enjoy the evening’s entertainment. Waiho Gorge and Mari Hnri follow on the three remaining nights of the week. n Quite a number of applications are being made for postal votes within the Westland electorate, and before polling day these will no doubt constitute a considerable' number. Those entitled to vote by post should apply as early as possible. They will receive their voting papers forthwith, and may record their vote at once. Tt will not--be dealt with by the Returning Olheer until the official count takes place. Messrs Paterson Michel .and Co. Ltd. have received word from Messrs Quick and Smith, the well-known Dunedin firm, stating that the Okarito Five Mile Gold Dredging Cov. had a most successful flotation. The capital of £30.000 (120.000 5s shares) was very much oversubscribed. Active operations will lie commenced immediately. Otlim- important developments are expected, which should give new life to che old Okarito district.
