It would appear some one on behalf of Labour in Westland lias sent out an S.O.S. for wo learn from the Argus that Mr Holland. Leader of the Labour Socialist. Party, is hastening to the support of Air O’Prion, and is to speak at Greymouth on Wednesday. Is this the hoisting of the white flag to indicate Air O’Brien’s inability to carry on without the heavy guns of Mr Holland whom the Argus considers the (finest platform speaker of the "Dominion etc. ? Certainly Mr 0 Bi ion has been rampaging in South Westland and talking much extraneous matter alvout folk who do not count in this fight. Air O’Brien instead of fulminating. should stick to his polities if he wishes to hold the attention of the people. But as to the advent of Mr Holland, it is not so long ago that that gentleman toured the electorate with Mr O’Brien and visited some of the outposts. That preliminary could hardly have been a success since Afr Holland is called on to revisit the electorate and put in bis spoke. It is typical of Afr Seddon's many contests for the Westland Electorate that he has not desired any extraneous aid on stick occasions. Were lie so to desiie it lie could get help from the pick of New Zealand, but winning off his own
bat has lieon a habit with Mr Seddon, and he is playing the game as usual without any desire of seeking help from others. It is very good of Mr Holland to rush hack from the North Island to tight for his henchman Mr O’Brien, and we shall expect to learn that Mr Holland will be very eloquent and will perhaps work himself up into righteous indignation! But lie has a. lot of‘other speeches to wipe out. He lias many extravagant statements to justify, before lie will be taken at the lace value he would pass himself off at. In the meantime AI r ,Seddon’s candidature appears to be progressing very successfully. He was frankness itself at the meeting on Thursday night, and the Electorate has had close knowledge and experience of him all through bis political career. His work and worth are as an open book, and it is not surprising lie enjoys the popularity and confidence lie does.
