WAT A BOA SPRING SALE. DEAD PBICKS.
At fie above yards yesterday 19(5 cattle only were penned fur the usual spring sal<* which in hy-gone days was notable for the big yarding and excellence of till* cattle. In loth respects yesterday’s sale was much short ol the usual number as to quantity and quality. The demand was keen from the comniem cment of flic stile .and prices recorded were the highest since the war, showing clearly that the shortage of store stock is very acute. There would have been no didiculty in selling a flirt Iter 390 bead yesterday bad i bey been available. Two and a-lialt year steers made £l3 and 2-vr. steers £ll os. Similar aged heifers ranged from £ll to C 8 10s. Fat and forward heifers LI 2 to £lO 1 os. .Messrs W. Jeffries: and Co’s entry comprised 102 head and the folio" mg a,re the* principal sales. The live stock sale at Addington (odav saw the prices generally maintain late rates and improve in some eases. Fat cattle The total yarding was GUG head. Competition was keen, late rates being well maintained. Best; steers sold at £lB IDs to L 23 17s, medium £l7 7s to £lO 17s. light £l2 10s to Li-. 17s; cows, lies! .£l7 to £lB 7s. medium CO 10s to Li I, light £0 10s to .os 10s. heifers lies) £l3 os to £lB 12; Gd, medium £9 17s to £l3. light £8 os to £9.
Fat sheep—-Competition was keen for all classes, especially for prime quality, there being an all-round advance on late sales.
Store sit cep—There was a medium entry, mostly ol dry sheen, values being nit the recent basis, with a shade better at times. Fat lambs sold to -lOs, light fr< "t 2Gs. Fat pigs.---There was a large yarding of perk, a medium entry of bacon, and a large number ol choppers. Tight pork sold at:- 80s to .‘Ms, medium 38s to 475. heavy 18s to 775. extra to GOs. average price (s;{d to 7M! per lb.
