The Postal Department proposes to instal a picture transmission service, .Melbourne to Sydney, using telegraph lines. By this means it will be possible to publish pictures of events happening half an hour earlier in another Stato. The system will also help the police.

The much discussed totalisator evoked an interesting diversity liefore a Parliamentary Select Committee on racing. |The machine was warmly supported (by the Secretary of the Victoria Racing Club, but the Secretary of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club declared racing would be impossible without betting. No one would attend while the totalisator was alone, and it would produce an undesirable das, in hosts of illegal bookmakers. The machine would also greatly increase the number of small bets. His personal opinion was the bookmakers alone as at present, provided the best system.
