WESTLAND RACING CLUB

A meeting of the Committee of the Westland ItiK-iiifi Club was hold at th,e racecourse yesterday afternoon, to

finalise some arrangements in connection with the rehabilitation of the appointments after the late disastrous fire

There were present:—Messrs W. E. "Williams (Clmirniiin). A. AV. Ynrralh,, F. Meflregor. J. .J. McTntosh. C. J. T\ Sellers. J. Peake, and 1). J. Evans. Apology 'was made for the absence of Messrs Neville. Houston, AA'hiley and Hut-land. At the outset an inspection was made of the stand accommodation. The enlarged stand was found to give ample seating for a large attendance. Portion will he set aside and reserved for officials, owners, trainers and special guests. Special access will be orovided to the reserved position. The division of the administrative quarters was approved, and the arrangements proposed confirmed. Special provision is to be made for ambulance accommodation. Satisfaction was expressed at the progress of the work and also at the general appearance of the course and grounds. Jit was agreed to arrange for the enlargement of the bird cage and also for a rear entrance to the two publicans’ booths. Two bars are provided, each of equal size and convenience and both with circular bars. The matter of extending the racing track to provide for a straight start for races from six furlongs was looked into, and this will be carried out later. Members specially commented on the celerity with which the work in hand was being attended to. and the gratifying way in •'which the rcoiiiremcnt.s were being met. NEW MEMBERS.

T>evaney, 0. Head (TCanieril. The Chairman expressed gratification that there had been such a splendid response to the call for new members. The response shewed a- fine spirit and a readv desire to help the Club. FINANCIAL. The Treasurer submitted a statement of the finances and particulars of the debt adjustment which were* approved. It was stated the debenture holders were agreeing to a reduction in the rate of 'interest to 6Jf per cent, and it would be possible to make an annual reduction in the principal owing by careful husbanding of the finances.

'l'lio report --was received as satisfactory and encouraging for the future. GENERAL. Prices wore submitted for a new starting ma.cbine. Tn view of tbo cost entailed the matter was referred to Mr Jutland and the Secretary to arrange for the loan of the Peefton Chib’s maebine, pending other arrangements being possible.

.T. Medhurst (Blenhcimf wrote stilting lie would forward his patent starting release to replace the one lust in the fire, free of charge to the Club. Received with thanks. The Hokitika Municipal Band wrote offering in view of the Club's fire loss to provide music at Christmas and Raster free of charge. This generous offer was accepted with thanks. The Hokitika Borough Council wrote in respect to a water supply for the course. It was resolved to accept the offer, the Secretary to reply and arrange the matter.

Other general matters were dismissed and left in the hands ot the Secret ary to attend to.
