The police obtained a statement from Thomas Smith, arrested at Dwelliugup (following the ~shooting of bis employer) yesterday. ;•••. . Smith states that owing, to bis employer, Eliott’s refusal to pay his wages, a dispute occurred. Ebbott attempted to reach for a rifle. Sniitli snatched another rifle and shot him in self-defence.

MR BAVIN’S VIEWS
SYDNEY, October 27
In a speech at Darlinghurst, Premier Baviri warned the workers that unless there was greater production there was hound to be a-serious reduction in the standard of living in this country. This was already threatening. A halt must be called somewhere. The problem must be attacked by the workers in co-operation with the employers.
AUSTRALIAN SHIPOWNERS
SYDNEY, Oct. 12
According to statements made in Sydney yesterday -afternoon, oversea shipping companies are extiemelv pleased at the announcement by the Prim© Minister (All* Bruce), that he will repeal the coastal clauses of the Navigation Act, and allow them to_ trade round the coast with black, brindle and yellow crews, paid at a fraction of the rates paid to Australian seamen.
After the oversea shipping representatives have had the necessary interviews in Nationalist circles, they do not expect that the duty to be imposed on passengers and cargo will bo irksome.
Last night it was rumoured that the oversea, {shipping, irepresentative-i intended to make substantial donations to the Nationalist Party election funds.
