The boat was not damaged at Sydney, but it appears to have received a heavy knock at the cox wain’s seat, which broke the back of the boat, and badly splintered it fore and aft. The crew used one of the Melbourne Club’s boats, which was satisfactory when they competed in the Henley Regatta. In the first heat of the Stewards’ Challenge Cup, the Wanganui Union crew defeated Albert Park crew by four lengths. The final resulted: New Zealand crew first, Ruthergleu second. The visitors won by three lengths. Wanganui * Union were never troubled in the heat or the final, leading from the start. The crew’s powerful leg drive and easy body recovery contributed largely to their pace. The critics wer favourably impressed with the crew. This was New Zealand’s third succesive win in the Stewards’ Challenge Cup. Healey, the Wanganui stroke, expressed the team’s gratification with their success. The weather was omewliat showery. Mosman (Sydney) won the senior eights from Mercantile.
