LATE LOCALS.

Mr and Mrs Frank Lewis returned yesterday afternoon from their holiday trip to United States. Both are looking well and enjoyed their tour very much.

Mr S. Burnett White, furnisher, of Greymouth is making a very fine displav of house furnishings of a vei \ high quality at the Soldiers’ Hall. The public, are cordially invited to call and inspect the very large range of everything that is newest and best m furniture and furnishings.

Memories of the Dominion’s gift-battle-cruiser, K.M.S. New Zealand, have been aroused by the gift of Prince Batten-burg, one of her officers, of 200 coloured reproductions of a picture of her while in action at the Battle of Jutland to the New Zealand Navy League. An interesting history lies behind the picture, which shows the ship in line of battle, with the neighbouring ships identified, and the cential .subjects being hit. The Prince commissioned Mr Wylie, R.A., to paint her. He then had 500 reproductions printed and after distributing the majority of them among his naval friends, sent the remainder to New Zealand as a gift, and expressed the wish that they should be put to some practical use. It has been decided to sell the prints for the Navy League funds. The block from which they were printed has been destroyed, and the original is in the possession of Prince Battenburg.
