CARDINAL CERETTI

DUE IN AUCKLAND NEXT MONTH.

AUCKLAND, October 22

'Hie Papal Legato to the recent Eucharistic Congress at Sydney, Cardinal Ceretti, will arrive in Auckland on November 19th by the Aorangi from Sydney, on his way back to Rome. During the Congress it was not expected that his Eminence would he able to see New Zealand at all, and news of the change of programme was brought by the Right Rev. Dr. P. E. ~iagennis, Vicar-General of the Order of Carmelites, with representatives in all parts of the world, who arrived from Sydney by , the Niagara. Dr. Magennis has his headquarters at Rome, and he is on his way back after attending the Congress. “ Cardinal Ceretti was scheduled to return by this boat, but he decided to remain another month in Australia,” Dr. Magennis stated. “He has many things to do and is being kept very busy.”

It is understood that Cardinal Ceretti will remain only one day in Auckland, proceeding on to Vancouver by the Aorangi. He will receive a welcome from the local clergy and laity, and facilities will be provided for him to see as much of the city as possible during his short stay here.

Included in the Niagara’s passenger list were a number of prelates who have been attending the Congress. The party comprised Father L. D. Flanagan, of New York, Provincial of the Carmelites; Father J. A. Hogan, of Philadelphia, a member of the Order of St, Augustine; Dr. D. McGrah, of Rome, a member of the Orde" of St! Augustine; Father J. Kiely, and Father H. A. Floyd, of Chicago. The only New Zealand priest who returned was Father M. J. Furlong, of Devonport, who spent a holiday in Sydney after the Congress. All the .visitors agreed that the Congress had been a wonderful success, arid they stated they were returning to their homes with the most pleasant recollections of the gathering, and of Australia and Australians.
