The Kanieri State School concert and ball is set down for Wednesday of next week, not Friday as 'stated yesterday. The gathering will be an attractive one from every point of view. A good concert and a good ball should prove an attraction to add to the funds of a very deserving object.

Members of the local Bowling Club were able to indulge in a roll-up during the last two days, and in spite of the recent rain the green gave every promise of proving in good trim when a few days sun had the effect of bringing on the new grass. There will be play each evening and on Saturday, and the following Saturday the formal official opening will take place.

The sudden death took place this morning from a heart attack of Mrs Anderson, wile of Mr Andrew Anderson, of Woodstock. Deceased was a well-known resident of the district since childhood, being a daughter of the late Air P. Douglas, of Woodstock. She was 58 years of age and leaves a bereaved husband, one daughter (Mrs Foster, of Greymouth), and one son (Andrew, of Woodstock), and also a brother (Air Pat Douglas of Waitaha), and sisters (Mrs C. Tee, c;f Auckland, Mrs Windleburn, of Wanganui, Airs Jones, of Greymouth, and Airs D. Kelly, of Woodstock). Very general regret will be felt for the bereaved in their sudden loss.

The affection and esteem in which the late Airs Constance Furkert, wife of Mr F. AV. Furkert, Engineer-in-Oliief of the (Public Works Department, was held, was shown on Sunday /afternoon ‘at 'Wellington when' the cremation took place at Karori. Before leaving the family residence at Alatai Road, Hataitai, a service was conducted by the Rev. E. J. Orange, who also presided at the later service. The chief mourners were the widower and the two sons, Air F. P. Furkert and Air Bruce R, Furkert. The pall-bearers were memibers of the staff of the Public Works Department, which Department was very well represented. The Hon. R. A. Wright, member for the district, represented the Government, and among those present were Sir John Luke, M.P., Messrs H. J. H. Blow (formerly Under-Secretary for Public Works), G. A. Troup 'Mayor of Wellington), F. AV. AlcLean, W. AVaddell (Superintendent of Advances to Settlers), A. T. Alarkm.au (manager in New Zealand of the Pacific Cable Board), M. Cable (tramways manager), G. A. Hart (city engineer), J. Thompson (asistant city engineer), P. Versohaffelt (Public Service Commissioner), F. AV. AtiHer (secretary of tlie Public Service Association), J. Murray (Secretary for Stamps), P. R. Bailey, T. H. Gill, G. Halliday Valuation Department), and H. Plimmer (cousin of deceased.
