“The Times” Paris correspondent reports that, despite night-long and d|uy-loi.ig rescue work by gangs of workmen and soldiers, among the
thousands of tons of debris, fifteen are still 'buried in the ruins of the Vincennes building. Nine dead and three injured were removed. Few additional survivors are expected because the majority wore working on 1 the second floor, and four completed storeys collapsed on. their headfs. A turther collapse is feared. Acetylene blow-pipes 1 have been employed to cut girders and release the victims. One of four injured men who were together in a cavity was given rum through a tube, to maintain bis strength, but lie died after being extricated. The remaining three could not be, reached, Injections of camphor oil and cocaine 'sustained another man until he was rescued.
Th© builder. Broirni. and the foreman admitted cementing some suspicious cracks three weeks ago. Both were arrested, ft is believed that .cheapness of the materials and the absence of proper plans were responsible for the disaster.
