The Australian Olympic team returned to Sydney to-day, all being well. Charlton intends to engage in further competitive swimming. MURDEROUS ATTACK. WOMAN SLASHED WITH RAZOR, BRISBANE, October 22. A murderous attack was made upon Violet Connolly at North Brisbane. Her dying dispositions were taken. At the wool sales there was a good general competition in all sections. The market was firm at last week’s rates and firm in all descriptions of merino. New South Wales banks doing business in New Zealand announce an alteration in exchange rates beginning on 22nd October. The new rates are: buying os per cent discount; selling 5s premium. Chief Judge Detbridge, in the Arbitration Court, granted a temporary variation in the Watersiders’ Award by the substitution of picking up places mentioned in the shipowners’ application and the introduction of the weekly engagement system. A GRUESOME DISCOVERY. SYDNEY, October 22. A gruesome discovery was made by Harold Nolan. When walking through scrub at the rear of Long Bay gaol, he trod on the decomposed body of a mid-dle-aged man whom the police thiiik met his death by foul play nearly six months ago, and was deposited there secretly. Deceased was well dressed. BOMB THROWN. BROKEN HILL, October 22. Somebody threw a, bomb on a fruit shop occupied by a Greek named. Boulous in the centre of tire city, wrecking the ceiling and contents of one room. The motive is not disclosed. SYDNEY HARBOUR TRAGEDY. FATHER AND SON. s ’ - SYDNEY, Oct. 20The body of a nine-year-old boy was found in the harbour at Mosman Bay. He had not been seen since October 11, when he left home* with his 'father, who Lad been out of work and was despondent. The man went ostensibly for a walk with the boy en route to‘ school. The police are searching for the father. SYDNEY, Oct. 21.
The decomposed (body of Herbert Mitchell, aged 45, father of a boy who was found drowned in Sydney Harbour (as cabled on Saturday) was recovered from the harbour yesterday by the police, who obtained a note, ostensibly left by the father, saying that he and his son were going to a watery grave.
