The adjourned inquest concerning the death of George Gardner, engine-driver at the middle brake section of the Liverpool State colliery, as the result of a boiler explosion on October 12th, was resumed on Saturday before the Coroner (Mr W. Meldrum). Sergeant J. Smyth conducted the proceedings, Mr W. J. Joyce appeared on behalf of deceased's relatives, and the Mines Department was represented by Mr F. A. 'lv'itehingham. The following officials were present: Messrs I. A. James (Superintendent of the State Mines), G. Millar (State Mine engineer), and E. Brown (Inspector of Machinery). Sergeant Smyth announced that the evidence of three witnesses was available and a further adjournment was then taken as evidence was to be'taken at Christchurch.
